Railway crossing between Ukraine and Moldova can be launched next week - 08.03.2023

The movement of freight trains through the Berezina-Basarabyaska border crossing may begin next week. This was discussed during the meeting of representatives of Ukrzaliznytsia with Romanian and Moldovan carriers on March 7, Rail.insider reported.

As Volodymyr Serbinov, a representative of State Enterprise "Zaliznytsia Moldova" noted during the meeting, on March 7, the carrier received a letter from Ukrzaliznytsia about the readiness to start the movement of freight trains through the Berezina-Basarabiask border crossing from 00:00 on March 13. The official added that the current issue is the introduction of temporary border control on the Ukrainian side.

Railways of Moldova intends to consider the letter and announce its position on this issue on March 9-10.

The deputy director of the department of commercial work of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" Valery Tkachev noted that it is also necessary to work out the issue of phytosanitary and veterinary control for the transportation of grain cargoes through the crossing.

We should note that thanks to the work of the Berezine-Basarabiaska section, Moldova will be able to export and import goods by rail through the Danube port of Izmail in Ukraine, bypassing the Transnistrian region.
